During September, the Manley Art Center will have a variety of exhibits n display. The sculptures of Donna Goss and Brian Childers is the main exhibit with LatnX Story Projects.

Manley Art Center announced the opening reception for the September Art Exhibit, wil be held Saturday, September 10, from 3 to 6 p.m. at The Manley Art Center, located at 433 Oak Street in Brookings.

The exhibit, on display from September 6 through October 1, features three-dimensional creations by Donna Goss and Brian Childers. Sculpture is Donna’s favorite expression in art. Although she has taken some courses in sculpture, Donna mostly learned from reading and experimenting with tools and finishes to achieve the best result, as she developed personal techniques and style. She enjoys the beauty of both wood and stone as she shapes out, sands, and finishes sculptural forms which are both satisfying and complete.

Brian Childers art is an exploration of both woodturning and what he calls wood constructivism. His designs are influenced by the earthy shapes and fine finishes of the arts and crafts movement, the modern look of Prairie Design, and the subtle elegance of the shapes found in the arts of Japan.

Brian finds the act of manipulating a block of wood with saw and drill and lathe and chisel to find the possibilities within is both a maddening series of questions and a satisfying set of answers. He seldom begins a project with a firm vision of where it is going, but rather he cuts and turns and manipulates the wood while paying attention to what shape the wood is pushing him towards.

Also during the month of September, The Manley Art Center is honored to host the Latinx Story Projects mobile art exhibit, Elements of Home. Elements of Home, Led by De La Raíz (From the Root) Latinx Story Project consists of four paintings created by two Southern Oregon Latinx artists that explore the connection between home and our relationship with water, air, fire, and Earth.

The rest of the exhibit will be filled out with a variety of art created by the Manley Art Center members. Proceeds from the sale of artwork are shared between the artists and the Manley Art Center. The Manley uses its portion to further its mission to promote, through education, the appreciation, distribution, and enjoyment of fine arts and crafts.
